Top Heating Companies in Morris County, NJ: 2026 Local Guide

Most Morris County homes heat with natural gas, but a meaningful share do not. About 70 percent of occupied homes use utility gas, close to the statewide share, while roughly 14 percent still heat with fuel oil or kerosene, more than twice the New Jersey rate, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. The typical home was built around 1971, and about one in eight predates 1940. Between gas furnaces, oil-fired boilers, steam radiators, and newer heat pumps, the right heating contractor for one house can be the wrong fit for the house down the street.

This guide compares 12 licensed heating and HVAC companies with offices in Morris County: where each is based, how long it has operated, the heating equipment it works on, how it handles emergencies, its maintenance plans, and its current Google rating. It is the second edition in our county series, following our guide to heating companies in Sussex County.

Editorial disclosure: This guide is published by Willco Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Heating Inc., one of the companies it covers. Willco appears first because we publish the guide; the other companies are listed alphabetically and are not ranked. All company details come from public sources checked on October 26, 2026. No company paid to be included. If a detail about your company is out of date, contact us and we will review it.

How We Evaluated Morris County Heating Companies

We started with Google Maps searches for heating contractors across Morris County, covering Morristown, Parsippany, Madison, Chatham, Florham Park, Whippany, Denville, Rockaway, Dover, Randolph, Boonton, Montville, Kinnelon, Jefferson, Roxbury, Mount Olive, Chester, Mendham, Riverdale, and nearby communities. We then kept only companies that met all five of these requirements:

  • A business address in Morris County shown on the company’s Google Business Profile.
  • Furnace and boiler service described on the company’s own website.
  • A New Jersey Master HVACR Contractor license number published by the company that showed as active in the state license lookup.
  • A Google Business Profile with public reviews.
  • At least 200 Google reviews on the date we checked. Morris County has far more heating contractors than Sussex County, so we used this threshold to keep the guide to established providers with a substantial public review history.

For each company we recorded the same facts from its website and Google Business Profile, and we checked the license number it publishes in the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs license lookup. Manufacturer affiliations are shown as each company states them; we did not confirm them on manufacturer dealer locators for this edition. Anything we could not confirm publicly was left out.

We did not score or rank the companies. Ratings are a snapshot and will change. Several well-reviewed contractors were not included because their websites did not describe boiler service or did not publish an HVACR license number we could match to an active state record. Contractors based in neighboring counties also serve parts of Morris County; this edition covers companies with an address inside the county.

How Morris County Homeowners Should Choose a Heating Company

The right company depends on the system you have, the fuel you use, and how you want service handled when something fails on a January night. Ask these questions before you sign anything.

  • Does the company work on systems like mine? A gas furnace, an oil-fired boiler, a steam system, and a cold-climate heat pump call for different skills and parts.
  • Is the license active? New Jersey requires HVACR contractors to be licensed. Ask for the Master HVACR license number and check it in the Division of Consumer Affairs lookup. Some companies publish a shortened number, so ask for the full one if you cannot find it.
  • How do emergencies really work? “24/7” can mean a live dispatcher, an answering service, or priority for plan members. Ask whether a technician is sent overnight, what after-hours fees apply, and whether holidays are covered.
  • What does the maintenance plan include? Compare visits per year, tune-up scope, how quickly members are scheduled, and repair discounts.
  • Are manufacturer credentials current? Lennox, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, and other manufacturers publish dealer locators, so you can confirm a designation before you buy.
  • Is the proposal written and itemized? For a replacement, ask how the system was sized. A heat-loss calculation is more reliable than matching the old unit.
  • Which rebates and financing apply? Utility programs differ by utility and change often, so ask which ones apply at your address.

Why Local Heating Experience Matters in Morris County

According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2020 to 2024 estimates, about 70 percent of occupied homes in Morris County heat primarily with utility gas, compared with 73 percent statewide. About 14 percent heat with fuel oil or kerosene, more than twice the statewide share of roughly 6 percent. About 12 percent use electricity, and close to 3 percent use propane. In practice, that means most service calls involve gas furnaces and boilers, but a contractor working across the county still needs to be comfortable with oil burners, tanks, and propane equipment.

The housing stock matters too. The median year built for Morris County homes is 1971, about 12 percent were built before 1940, and roughly six in ten were built before 1980. Older homes often have hot water or steam boilers feeding radiators, or ductwork that was not designed for modern equipment, so a good contractor evaluates how heat is distributed, not only the boiler or furnace.

Then there is the climate. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America climate guide classifies Morris County as a cold climate (IECC zone 5A). Heat pumps can work well here when they are chosen for it: cold-climate models and dual-fuel setups, which pair a heat pump with a furnace or boiler for the coldest days, are the usual approaches.

Finally, gas service in the county comes from more than one utility, including PSE&G and New Jersey Natural Gas. If you are considering an oil-to-gas conversion, the first step is confirming with the utility that serves your street that a gas main is available, then finding a contractor who knows that utility’s process and your town’s permit requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who provides emergency heating service in Morris County?

Eleven of the 12 companies in this guide advertise 24/7 or 24-hour emergency service: A&H Mechanical Services, Air Group, Argent, BDP Plumbing & Heating, Climate Plus, Jack Frost, KEIL, Monster Mechanical, Pipe Works Services, Russo Bros. & Co., and Ryan & Company. Willco keeps weekday office hours and reserves weekends for emergency calls. Ask any contractor how after-hours calls are handled before you need one.

What should I look for in a heating contractor?

An active New Jersey Master HVACR license, experience with your fuel and system type, a clear emergency policy, written estimates, and recent reviews that mention work like yours. The checklist above covers each point.

How often should a furnace or boiler be serviced?

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the heating season starts. Oil-fired equipment also needs an annual cleaning and burner adjustment, and because heat pumps run in both seasons, many contractors recommend servicing them twice a year. See how often to service your furnace for what a tune-up covers.

Should I repair or replace my heating system?

Weigh age, repair cost, and safety. Repair usually makes sense for a newer system with an isolated problem. Price a replacement when equipment is near the end of its expected life, repairs are becoming frequent, a heat exchanger is cracked, or you already plan a fuel change. For typical lifespans, see how long a furnace lasts.

Do Morris County HVAC companies service boilers and heat pumps?

Yes. Every company in this guide publishes boiler service, and most also list heat pump or ductless work. If you have a steam system, a specific boiler brand, or a cold-climate heat pump, confirm that experience directly.

Can I switch from oil to natural gas in Morris County?

Often, if gas service reaches your street. A conversion usually involves confirming service with the utility, pulling permits, installing a gas furnace or boiler, and handling the oil tank under local rules. Willco, A&H Mechanical Services, Argent, Climate Plus, Jack Frost, and Russo Bros. & Co. all advertise conversion work.
